Tears streamed down Melanie’s cheeks as Adrian pulled her close, his warmth enveloping her. “I’ve known I loved you for a long time,” he said, his voice muffled in her curls. “I was waiting for you to be ready.” Her laughter bubbled through her tears. “I’ve loved you longer,” she teased, her competitive streak sparking. He grinned, brushing a kiss to her forehead. “Almost,” he countered, his hands framing her face. The tea timer chimed, breaking the spell, but Melanie felt lighter than she had in years. “When we kiss again, you won’t hide?” he asked, his eyes twinkling. She shook her head, slipping her arms around his waist. “No hiding.” The kettle’s steam, the birdsong outside, the scent of chamomile—it all faded against the certainty of his love.
